Named GP

All patients registered at Barrack Lane Medical Centre hold a practice wide registration. This means you can elect to be seen at either Barrack Lane or Stoke Park site. Every patient is allocated a named GP, but this does not prevent you from seeing the clinician of your choice if they have availability. If you would like more details please contact us or ask at reception.

When you need to be seen...   

We will offer you a same day appointment with a member of our On the Day Team. Appointments can be arranged by calling the surgery direct or can be booked on line. Our On the Day team are supported by a designated Duty Doctor who is available for urgent problems.

To save a time consuming trip to the surgery...

Our clinicians are available each day for telephone consultations and to provide advice.

When you need a follow-up appointment or are asked to come back...

Our reception staff will organise a telephone assessment for you, with a clinician of your choice, who will call you back to discuss your needs and arrange a face to face appointment if you agree that one is needed. 

Keep or Cancel

Patients who do not attend for their appointments cost the National Health Service many millions of pounds each year.

If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.

Out of Hours

For urgent advice after the surgery has closed, during the night and at weekends dial 111 for the Out of Hours Service for Suffolk. Calls to this service are free of charge from both landlines and mobiles. 

Test Results

Specimens need to be dropped in at the reception desk by 12 noon so that we can send the samples off to the laboratories.  Please ring for results after 2.30pm when the surgery is less busy.


Repeat Prescriptions

You may request repeat prescriptions in the following ways: greenpills

  • In writing (enclosing a SAE if you would like it posted back to you). Please tick all items required on the computer slip attached to your last prescription.
  • In person at the reception desk
  • Via our secure online system (systmonline)

Please allow 2 working days for completion. Prescriptions are done on Monday to Friday only. All prescriptions can be collected after 3pm.

Electronic Prescription Service

Almost all prescriptions can now be sent electronically to a nominated pharmacy. This means that you can avoid having to come to the surgery to collect your prescription. Once we have generated a prescription we can send it to your chosen pharmacy (electronically) and you will be able to collect your medication from the pharmacy directly.

If a pharmacy is unable to get a medication you can ask for a 'token' which allows you to take your prescription to a different pharmacy.

Please always check the repeat prescription slip for messages from the surgery. We may add information regarding whether you need to been seen for a review.

As we normally give you a month's notice please do not leave it to the last minute to make that appointment.
